Description from the seller
KIN 512 – Mechanical Bakelite Desk Pencil Sharpener – Czechoslovakia – c. 1945-1950
A superb and increasingly scarce KIN Model 512 mechanical desk pencil sharpener, manufactured in former Czechoslovakia during the late 1940s. This large, heavy quality model is widely admired for its distinctive streamlined design, combining the elegance of late Art Deco styling with the robust functionality of early industrial office equipment.
Crafted from beautifully polished dark brown bakelite and fitted with a nickel-plated steel sharpening mechanism, the KIN 512 is both a practical writing accessory and a highly decorative collector's piece. Its sculptural silhouette, quality materials, and precise engineering make it a standout example of mid-century Central European design.
This example is particularly desirable as it retains all of its important original components, including the original removable bakelite shavings drawer and the original metal table clamp, allowing it to be securely mounted to a desk exactly as intended by the manufacturer.
The sharpener has been tested and remains fully functional. The mechanism operates smoothly, the spring-loaded pencil holder works correctly, and the sharpener performs its intended function properly.
A wonderful addition to a collection of bakelite objects, vintage office equipment, writing instruments, industrial design, or Mid-Century decorative arts.
