Description from the seller
Collection of 4 scarabs originating from Egypt (modern replicas)
1) Large Ceremonial Scarab in Egyptian Alabaster (Calcite) – Cultural Heritage and Solar Symbolism
We present a refined specimen of an Egyptian scarab, finely carved in white alabaster (calcite), dating to the late 20th century. (hand-carved natural stone)
This artifact is not merely decorative but a cultivated reference to the millennial tradition of glyptic (stone engraving) from Ancient Egypt, where the scarab (Scarabaeus sacer) represented the god Khepri, a symbol of the rising sun and eternal rebirth.
The object is made from authentic Egyptian alabaster, a translucent calcareous stone highly valued since the pharaonic era for its ability to reflect light, evoking purity and divinity.
The sculpture shows notable technical craftsmanship:
The Back (Exoskeleton):
Features a detailed partition of the elytra and prothorax, with linear engravings that define the anatomical structure.
The Base and the Legs:
The scarab is depicted resting on an elliptical base. The legs are sculpted with depth, partially lifting from the central body to create a visually striking dynamic plastically.
Hieroglyphic Inscriptions:
Both the back and the base (lower part) are enriched with hand-engraved hieroglyphic inscriptions.
Although decorative in nature, typical of the production period, they recall apotropaic formulas and royal names, giving the object an aura of historical authenticity and esoteric charm.
Anthropological Significance:
This type of artifact, produced between the late 19th and 20th centuries, testifies to the persistence of the “Egyptian taste” and the importance of local craftsmanship in preserving traditional iconography.
The scarab, as an amulet, was intended to protect the bearer and promote vital renewal.
Technical Features:
Material: White Egyptian alabaster (natural calcite).
Dimensions: 9.6 cm (length) x 6 cm (width) x 5 cm (height).
Weight: 210 grams.
Condition: Excellent overall condition. The stone shows the natural veins and inclusions typical of alabaster, which guarantee its natural origin.
The surface patina is consistent with the indicated era.
Note for collectors:
Because of its size and the quality of the stone, this scarab represents a striking display piece, perfect for enriching modern Aegyptiaca collections or as a high-class decorative element.
2) Triplet of Egyptian Faience Scarabs
Egyptian faience is an ancient ceramic material composed of about 90% ground quartz, combined with alkalis and lime. Through firing, it formed a porous body topped with a bright glaze, typically turquoise or blue. The Egyptians called it tjehenet, meaning “the shining,” and used it to create amulets and funerary objects.
They measure 36.8 x 16.6 / 22.2 g, 30 x 11.3 / 12.5 g, and 20 x 10.4 / 4.1 g (measurements in millimeters).
All of them have a through hole to be mounted with a cord.
The photos are part of the description.
Very quickly well packed with polystyrene and/or bubble wrap, and shipped with tracking and insurance with the best shipping agencies.
The shipping cost includes tracking, packaging material cost, and insurance of the piece.
Due to customs duties and border procedures, we do not ship to the USA.
Corsica and other European islands outside Italy are to be discussed/arranged.
