Key Victorian Style - Strongbox Key

A notable chest key datable between 1850 and the early 1900s, of Italian origin and fine workmanship.
The key's head features a volute design decorated with a cord, lilies and rosettes, a true Ionic capital, a solid rhombus-shaped shank, and a finely decorated 'comb' with Florentine lilies.
The symmetrical, pierced pattern of the 'map', reminiscent of stylized crosses and a series of intricate cutouts called gole, was used to overcome the wards and inner projections of a warded antique lock, probably employed for opening high-status chests.
