Huger Sputnik‑style table weather station in brass dating from 1960–1970, in excellent condition and in working order, with a transparent plexiglass globe mounted on a gilded brass central housing containing an analog barometer, thermometer and hygrometer.
Description from the seller
Exceptional and iconic desk weather station, model "Sputnik", manufactured in West Germany by the prestigious HUGER manufactory in the 1960s.
Inspired directly by the space race and the launch of the first artificial satellite in 1957, this cult object is a masterpiece of Space Age design.
It perfectly combines German high-precision mechanics with a timeless futuristic aesthetic.
The transparent plexiglass (Lucite) sphere is fully rotatable on its axis. It houses a central brass case inside which three high-precision analog measuring instruments are stacked:
- Aneroid barometer (measures atmospheric pressure at the center)
- Thermometer (measures temperature on the upper part)
- Hygrometer (measures air humidity)
All of it is suspended within a large orbital ring and rests on a circular foot weighted in brass.
State of preservation: Impeccable / Excellent condition
Aesthetic: The structure and the base in gilded brass have a magnificent gleam with a very light and superb patina of use attesting to its authenticity
The plexiglass globe is clear, with no cracks or major scratches.
Mechanical: The three internal instruments are all original and perfectly functional (the needles respond precisely to environmental changes).
