Icon - Mitrofan - Limewood - Mitrofan

Authentic 19th-century Russian-Orthodox icon (circa 1840–1880) of Saint Mitrofan of Voronezh, the first bishop of the city and adviser to Peter the Great.
The saint is depicted in the black monastic habit (great schema) with a miniature of Our Lady of Smolensk in the upper left corner.
A beautiful example of characterful Russian folk art with a powerful presence.
Condition:
In good, well-worn condition with a gorgeous patina and natural craquelure; the crack on the face is purely superficial and lies only in the varnish layer: authentic wear and some wood loss at the edges (notably the bottom edge) in keeping with great age.
