Description from the seller

Handmade, hammered, marked, and signed full-copper chef’s pan by Bonnafous, one of the last copper smiths from the renowned copper town Durfort.

The stamped mark on the copper frying pan is from the French artisanal copper smith "Les Cuivres Bonnafous", based in the famous copper town of Durfort. These pans were used only by real chefs.

The Bonnafous family has a long tradition of artisanal copper smiths (chaudronniers) in this region. Route de Malamort / 81540 Durfort: this is the exact workshop address. Durfort (postal code 81540) is a historic French village in the Tarn department, known as the Cité du Cuivre (the Copper City) due to its centuries-old tradition of copper processing.

This type of stamp and signature was used as a quality mark for handmade, high-quality French copperware (such as pans, pots, or decorative copper pieces). The handles are riveted and made of brass. The pan itself is hammered from heavy red copper.

The pan is beautiful as a decorative piece, but it is certainly worth retinning so that it can again bring plenty of culinary centerpiece moments to the table.

The oval shape is ideal for preparing dishes that are naturally elongated, such as a whole chicken, a roast, or a fish fillet. Copper is an excellent heat conductor, ensuring even and steady heat transfer. This makes the pan perfect for dishes that need to simmer or braise for a long time.

Many of these pans are also ovenproof and are used as a baking dish for gratins, for example. Because of the stunning appearance of red copper with brass handles, these pans are often taken directly from the stove to the table as serving dishes.
A feast for the eyes.

Good vintage condition.
The pan is made of heavy red copper and hand-hammered.
Signed and marked.

Thickness 3 cm.

Dimensions 20 x 28 cm. With handles 35 cm. Height 10 cm. Weight: 2250 grams
