Hanging lamp attributed to Bakalowits & Söhne, Austria, in a bright gold brass finish with a glass rod diffuser, black, 65 x 65 x 69 cm, four fittings, circa 1960–1970, excellent vintage condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
Exceptional grand luxury pendant lamp, attributed to the prestigious Austrian manufacturer Bakalowits & Söhne, renowned since the 19th century for its emblematic crystal lighting designs and collaborations with Wiener Werkstätte. This piece masterfully blends the opulence of Hollywood Regency style with the geometric lines of Mid-Century Modern design.
The lamp is meticulously constructed with a robust solid brass structure finished in bright gold, elegantly interrupted at its central axis by a textured dark-contrast cylinder, a mark of distinction and quality in the era's craftsmanship.
Its great appeal lies in the perimeter shade, formed by an elaborate grid of transparent cylindrical glass rods arranged horizontally in several overlapping levels. This intricate lattice acts as an exceptional optical diffuser: when lit, the crystal fragments the light in multiple directions, creating warm, sumptuous ambient lighting free of glare, while also projecting subtle linear sparkles that enhance the room.
