Olympus OM-1N Black + F.Zuiko Auto-S 50mm 1:1.8 — Fully Mechanical Working 35mm SLR

A working Olympus OM-1N black-body 35mm SLR paired with the classic F.Zuiko Auto-S 50mm f/1.8 standard lens. The OM-1N (1979–1987) is the refined final version of Olympus' legendary OM-1 series — a compact, lightweight, fully mechanical SLR designed by Yoshihisa Maitani. The horizontal-travel cloth focal-plane shutter works at all speeds without a battery, making this body a dependable choice for film photography even today.

Appearance:
Vintage cosmetic wear consistent with age. Some paint loss / brassing on the edges of the top plate, around the rewind crank, and on the corners (typical for black-painted OM-1N bodies of this era). Leatherette is intact with no peeling. Lens barrel shows light use marks only — no dents or deep scratches.

Function:
35mm SLR film camera with fully mechanical, horizontal-travel cloth focal-plane shutter (B, 1 s – 1/1000 s), TTL CdS center-weighted metering, mirror lock-up, and the unique Olympus OM mount system. The shutter-speed dial is integrated into the lens mount ring, a signature design of the OM series.
- Shutter release: fires (confirmed)
- Shutter speed dial (ring around lens mount): operates, all marked speeds (1 – 1/1000 s, B) settable
- Mechanical shutter operation: works without battery (a key feature of the OM-1N)
- Film advance lever, mirror, rewind crank, self-timer, ASA dial (25 – 1600), hot shoe, mirror lock-up, depth-of-field preview: all present and appear to move correctly when operated, but accurate operation has not been fully verified
- TTL CdS light meter: not fully tested. Powered by a 1.35 V mercury-type battery (see below); meter response with a fresh battery has not been confirmed
- ON/OFF switch for meter: operates

Please consider this as a vintage camera sold in working / partially-untested condition. We recommend the buyer service / CLA the camera for long-term reliable use.

Battery note:
The Olympus OM-1N uses a single 1.35 V mercury battery (originally PX625 / MR-9). Mercury cells are no longer manufactured. Modern alternatives include:
- WeinCell MRB625 (1.35 V zinc-air, voltage-correct)
- 1.5 V silver-oxide / alkaline (LR44 / SR44) with a voltage adapter
- PX625G (1.5 V alkaline, may slightly affect meter accuracy)

The battery powers ONLY the built-in TTL light meter. The shutter and all main mechanical operations work fully independently of the battery, at all speeds.

The battery is not included; please prepare one separately.

Optical system (lens):
F.Zuiko Auto-S 50mm 1:1.8 (OM-System, multi-coated version with green "50mm" lettering), serial 447005, 49 mm filter thread. This is the standard lens that defines the OM-System look — compact, sharp, and beautifully rendered. Optics are clear — no fungus, no haze, no balsam separation, and no major scratches visible. A small amount of dust may be present but does not affect image quality. Aperture blades are clean and snappy, aperture ring and focus ring both move smoothly.

Shutter / film chamber:
Cloth focal-plane shutter curtain appears clean and free of visible holes or tears. The film chamber and pressure plate are clean overall.

Notes:
The Olympus OM-1N is renowned for its bright, large viewfinder (one of the brightest among 35mm SLRs of its era) and its remarkably compact size — important factors that revolutionized SLR design in the 1970s. Please refer to the photos for the exact condition and accessories. As this is a vintage camera, occasional servicing (CLA) is recommended for long-term reliable use.
