Description from the seller
Title: Storm Surge of Light
In this intense oil on canvas by Bruno Di Giulio, the seascape becomes a story of energy and poetry, where the primordial force of the sea meets the quiet presence of the land. The composition opens onto a Mediterranean coastline resting at the foot of soft mountain ridges that fade at the horizon into delicate violet tones, creating a wide and airy perspective.
The real protagonist of the work is the moving sea: a succession of vigorous waves crosses the scene with a driving rhythm, breaking on the rocks scattered along the foreground. The foaming crests, rendered with dense and luminous brushstrokes, masterfully capture the exact moment when the water rises and crashes into a cascade of white foam. The painting’s materiality, rich and dynamic, gives the work a strong sense of three-dimensionality and continual movement.
The green and turquoise hues of the water alternate with silver and white reflections that evoke the sparkle of light on the agitated sea. The rocks emerge with vigorous brown and ochre accents, providing a chromatic counterpoint to the freshness of the waters and helping to reinforce the wild character of the landscape.
On the left side, the profile of the coastal village introduces a discreet yet significant human presence. The houses, bathed in light and just barely sketched with quick and precise touches, blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape, suggesting an atmosphere of serene daily life in contrast with the surge of the waves. Above the horizon, a group of seagulls in flight animates the sky, expanding the sense of freedom and spatial depth.
The firmament, built through soft shades of blue, gray, and white, lets through a diffuse light that envelops every element of the scene. The whole conveys a luminous and engaging vision of the marine nature, where the power of the elements is balanced by a refined chromatic sensitivity and by a composition of great balance.
An work that celebrates the eternal charm of the sea, capturing at the same time its strength, its light, and its incessant vitality.
