A beautiful, masterfully crafted wall mosaic from the mid-20th century, created by the Italian mosaic artist (Mosaicista) Primo Cossar.
The mosaic shows an elegant, colorful bird perched on an olive or pomegranate branch, framed in a classic, curved border. The motif is heavily inspired by the ancient Roman-Byzantine tradition, as seen at the famous sites in Ravenna or Aquileia.
The execution testifies to the excellent craftsmanship of the Friulian mosaic school (Spilimbergo). Each tessera (mosaic stone) was precisely hand-cut and set, producing a fascinating play of textures and matte as well as slightly glossy earth tones and green nuances.
On the back is the rare, original signature of the artist in the cement bed: “COSSAR PRIMO” (see image_3.png). A fantastic and very decorative collectible of Italian Mid-Century Modern craft.

The mosaic is in excellent, stable preservation. There are no noticeable missing pieces (all mosaic stones are firmly anchored in the bed). The edges and the back show the typical, rustic character of the cast cement bed, which underscores the authenticity and craftsmanship of this studio art. Ready to display or be inlaid.
Shipping note
Due to the solid cement bed the object has a noticeable weight (≈ 2.5 cm depth). It will be packed very carefully, shock-proof and professionally to ensure safe transport.
