Description from the seller

French Crystal Wine Glass Service – First Half of the 20th Century

A precious set consisting of 6 heavy French crystal wine glasses of high quality, dating to the first half of the 20th century (the full Art Deco period).

The glasses stand out for their notable material heft and for a sculptural design with a geometric matrix. The crystal, though unsigned, is distinguished by superior clarity and exceptional light refraction, characteristics typical of historic crystal works beyond the Alps.

Design and Craftsmanship Features:
The Slender Cone Bowl: The cup presents a flared, funnel-shaped profile, entirely traversed by a strict 6-sided facet cut. The wide facets are finished at the base with cut lunettes or arches, enhancing its three-dimensionality and creating a sumptuous petal-like visual effect.

The Hexagonal Stem: Perfectly fused with the upper structure, the stem repeats the same six-faced facet cut. The transition between the cup and the stem highlights the craftsmanship of hand-cutting, offering a balanced, solid, and ergonomic grip.

Refraction and Base: Thanks to the crystal’s thickness and the precision of the hexagonal cuts, the goblets produce splendid iridescent reflections (prism effect) when struck by light. Looking inside, the convergence of the facets creates on the bottom a sharp geometric star motif.

The Base: Wide and circular, it guarantees maximum stability for the goblet and presents a clean profile that allows the complexity of the stem to stand out.

Dimensions:
Height: 16 cm
Mouth diameter: 7.6 cm
Base diameter: 7.2 cm

A high-table set, of great visual impact, perfect for enhancing formal place settings or for collectors of European glass from the early twentieth century.

Condition: Overall excellent vintage condition. Structurally intact, the goblets may show microscopic and normal signs of use or light atomic flaws in the crystal, typical of period workmanship, which attest to their authenticity and age.
