Antique Aufa carbide lamp made of brass, ca. 1900-1930
Authentic antique carbide lamp (acetylene lamp) from the Aufa brand, dating from the first quarter of the 20th century. These lamps were used at the time as bicycle lamps or work lamps and operated on acetylene gas, produced by dripping water onto calcium carbide.
The lamp is entirely made of brass and consists of a round reflector cap with a fluted edge, a cylindrical reservoir with various adjustment knobs for gas supply and water, and a mounting bracket with an adjustable clamp construction, by which the lamp could be mounted to a handlebar or frame. The characteristic shape and the many ventilation holes in the reflector cap are typical for this type of lamp.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, with a beautiful brass patina and signs of wear appropriate for its age, such as some discoloration and oxidation on the brass. A atmospheric and functional collectible for enthusiasts of antique bicycles, carbide lamps, or industrial décor.
