A single-piece miniature sewing machine from circa 1910–1920, made of iron with a Pitchpin wooden base, Art Nouveau decorative metalwork with gilded motifs and an exotic bird, not in working order and weighing about 400 g, with dimensions 15.5 × 16 × 8.7 cm and a missing needle.
Description from the seller
Miniature sewing machine (Probably either a travel model or a child's toy) from the Art Nouveau era, in iron decorated on a base of pitch pine wood (American variant of red fir, often from Oregon).
Given its origins (an old residence near the Franco-Belgian border), its era and Art Nouveau decor, the piece was probably made in Belgium or France.
A somewhat uncommon specimen that has been used, with an old cardboard spool marked by the manufacturer and wound with pink silk thread.
The iron body of this machine is stylized Art Nouveau by its veneering/scrollwork and its decoration.
The pierced and thicker flywheel (diameter 6.5 cm) has a small wooden crank turning on its axis.
When you turn the crank, the functional mechanism drives the linkage and raises/lowers the small piston toward the table, though the needle is missing (to be replaced).
Under the small table lies the small complementary mechanism for thread passage.
All parts are assembled either by rivets or by metal screws.
The body is finely decorated with Art Nouveau motifs, featuring an exotic bird on flowering branches and little red fruits facing the bird (on each side). The refined lines of these motifs are gilded.
This refined, both animal-inspired and polychrome decoration is rather rare.
The small table is chrome-plated and bears the manufacturing number 658908.
Due to its age, the chrome on this table shows a few areas of wear (scales).
This miniature is in its original condition, with no intervention on my part. Weight of the machine approx. 400 grams
For your best impression and visibility, see the 16 detailed photos.
In any case, it is a collectible piece now over a hundred years old.
Sale with no reserve!
Enthusiasts, collectors this offer and possibility seems unique...
Shipped, well-packaged and protected
No shipments outside the European Union.
