Description from the seller
A work in Carrara white marble of extraordinary elegance, a perfect example of Neoclassical taste that recalls the splendor of the great European mansions of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The vase is a monumental urn with a lid, characterized by a Greco-Roman-inspired structure. The style is purely Neoclassical (Louis XVI style or Empire).
Decorated with a central bas-relief band depicting garlands of fruit and shells. At the lower part it features a Greek fret and acanthus leaves in relief.
The handles are the most distinctive part, adorned with a two-faced figure of two mythological beings supported by boar heads.
The lid features a beaded decoration and ends with a pinecone-shaped finial.
The vase belonged to a noble family and was located at the villa on the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula, purchased in 1965 and transported to Italy, now part of the family collection.
It will be shipped and packed in a wooden crate to prevent any damage during shipping.
