Description from the seller

UNIQUE PANORAMA CAMERA with rotating lens

This unique camera comes from the Russian KMZ factory. The Horizont (often written as Horizon) from 1968 is an iconic mechanical panorama camera with a rotating lens (swing-lens). The camera was produced in the Soviet Union by the well-known Krasnogorsky Mechanicheskiy Zavod (KMZ) factory. Models with a serial number starting with "68" were specifically built in the year 1968.

Unlike ordinary cameras, the Horizont has no standard shutter. Instead, the 28mm f/2.8 lens is mounted in a rotating drum. When printing, the drum rotates from left to right. The back of the lens projects the image through a vertical slit onto the film. The film lies in a cylindrical arc tightly wrapped around the drum.

The offered camera was produced in 1968 and is one of the EARLY produced, with serial number 6800950. The camera is physically in very good condition and works. The operation is best described as vintage. The camera was not tested with film.

This unique camera comes with a bag and user manual.

Film format: Standard 35mm film (135) Negative format: Extra wide format of 24 x 58 mm. You can obtain about 20 to 21 panoramic photos from a standard roll of 36 exposures.
View angle: An extremely wide horizontal panoramic viewing angle of 120 degrees.
Lens: KMZ OF-28P 28mm f/2.8. It is a fixed-focus lens, relying on depth of field (hyperfocal distance) to keep everything sharp.
Shutter speeds: Mechanically adjustable to 1/30s, 1/60s and 1/125s. Early versions (like this) also have a faster 1/250s marking on the top plate.

The camera was not tested with film.
