Description from the seller
Important Imperial Crown for a Sacred Statue – Italian Sacred Art – Late 19th Century
An important and evocative imperial crown intended for a devotional statue, made toward the end of the 19th century. It is a rare example of popular religious goldsmithing, conceived to adorn sacred images of particular prestige, such as crowned Madonnas, Child Jesus, or venerated saints.
The crown features the classic closed imperial structure, characterized by a circular base from which pierced arches rise, converging toward the central globe topped by the cross. The entire surface is enriched by a dense repertoire of ornaments composed of scrolls, vegetal motifs, foliate elements and baroque-style decorations, executed through filigree and artisanal workmanship.
Made in a metal alloy based on copper and brass, it preserves a splendid natural patina developed over time, with fascinating green-gray nuances due to metal oxidation. The surface has not been altered by invasive polishing, thus preserving the historical authenticity of the object.
Particularly interesting is the presence of about 30 faceted glass paste pieces, handcrafted and ground, individually set into mounts manually applied to the structure. These elements were intended to simulate the effect of diamonds and to reflect candlelight during processions and religious celebrations.
The dimensions are impressive and scenographic: total height 19.5 cm, maximum diameter 21.5 cm, base diameter 13.5 cm.
Very good state of preservation for its age. The structure is overall intact and stable. There are the usual signs of time, oxidation and slight deformations compatible with use and the nature of the artifact. The glass pastes are preserved and contribute to the remarkable aesthetic impact of the whole.
Our interior architect/designer recommends: a piece of great historical charm and decorative value, ideal for sacred art collections, wunderkammers, eclectic interiors, or environments where one wishes to introduce an authentic element capable of telling history, devotion, and craftsmanship.
Photos are part of the description. Guaranteed careful packaging entrusted to sector professionals.
