Description from the seller
“Joe Cactus”, the iconic ashtray designed by Philippe Starck, first edition released by OWO between 1990 and 1995 before its reissue by Alessi. This rare model is made of two-tone Bakelite, with a brown base and a green‑khaki central cone, subtly contrasting for a striking visual effect. The inner stem is metal, adding a functional and discreet detail to the minimalist design. The ingenious cone concept recalls a cactus spine, a subtle allusion to the object's function. This ashtray perfectly illustrates Starck's minimalist and industrial style, blending aesthetics and practicality. The publisher OWO, with which Starck collaborated on several creations, is known for producing some of his most sought-after pieces before their diffusion by better-known houses like Alessi. This original OWO edition is therefore particularly prized by collectors and design enthusiasts.
With a height of about 20 cm, this object is a rare and sought-after model, emblematic of 1990s design.
