Marc Riboud was born in Lyon in 1923 and took his first pictures at the World's Fair in Paris at the age of 14 with a vest-pocket Kodak camera. During the World War, he was involved in the Resistance and took part in the fighting of the partisan troops. Afterwards he studied engineering and worked in a factory until 1951. In 1952, he settled in Paris. His encounters with Cartier-Bresson and Capa led him to join the Magnum agency. This defined his life, which keeps him travelling and moving to this day. He has published a dozen books in various languages and presented his work in numerous exhibitions in the world's most famous museums. To call him a classic of photography is no exaggeration.
