Description from the seller
It is a piece that preserves the entire silent dignity of the old convent forge, that blend of austerity, symbolism and patient craftsmanship that characterizes nineteenth-century irons or even earlier. The structure is organized along a vertical axis topped by a gentle arch, from which curls and spirals emerge perfectly balanced. There is no ornamental excess: beauty arises from the rhythmic repetition of curves, the contained symmetry, and the firm stroke of the blacksmith, who worked more for permanence than for show.
The iron shows noble aging, with that dark, earthy tone that only centuries can give. The signs of wear—small irregularities, areas softened by wear, light oxidations stabilized—speak of a long life, probably in a monastic setting where the piece fulfilled a practical and symbolic function at once: to protect, delineate, separate without entirely isolating.
Despite the passage of time, the grille remains solid, intact, with the serene presence of objects that have survived because they were well made and because they formed part of a space where calm and daily repetition gave meaning to every detail. It is a work that conveys silence, discipline and a discreet beauty that only reveals itself when viewed closely.
Certified shipment and careful packaging.
