AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Exceptional deep plate (bowl-like or small charger) in Spanish popular earthenware from the Manises kilns (Valencia). A genuine piece from the second half of the 19th century (circa 1860–1880).

The reverse bears a magnificent and crisp master potter’s signature with the initials "A.G." handwritten in cobalt blue with a final dot, a mark catalogued in the nineteenth-century Valencian traditional ware repertoires.

Decoration: The obverse features a central stylized vegetal motif (moulding) surrounded by a perimeter frieze of lobes or radial motifs alternating with dots, all hand-painted in cobalt oxide over a white tin glaze.

Condition: Very good structural condition considering its age. It has no cracks (no metal staples), restorations, or structural hairs. It shows the fine, natural crazing of the glaze due to the passage of time and subtle peripheral losses of glaze at the edge (wear from use of the period) which guarantee its authenticity.

Dimensions: Diameter 27 cm. Exterior height from the base: 5.5 cm. Interior usable height: 5 cm.

Additional details: It incorporates on the reverse an old mounting system with crossed steel springs, installed in the mid-20th century for wall display.
