Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed copy on the title page by Mimmo Jodice (1934 - 2025), unique and unavailable in a signed copy and practically unattainable today in an unsigned copy on the Internet. 188 pages and about 150 color photographs, texts in Italian by Domenico Rea and Francesco Rosi as well as a one-page text by Mimmo Jodice on Naples, “city loved and guarded.” Solid hardcover publisher's binding illustrated on the cover. In excellent condition.
This book on the region around Naples, Campania, was published in a Mondadori editor’s collection covering all of Italy’s regions. The volume on Sicily was produced by Ferdinando Scianna, that on Emilia Romagna by Franco Fontan and that on the Veneto region by Gianni Berengo Gardin (see the other listings about them in this same sale). All the books in this collection are organized into different chapters: The territory and its inhabitants, Towns and countryside, Living in the region, Beyond the region, With and without nostalgia.
Mimmo Jodice is one of the greatest Italian photographers of the 20th century and he gained international recognition almost everywhere in the world; his architectural photographs were taken during exhibitions that allowed him to travel widely. A self-taught photographer born in 1934 in Naples, he began his artistic work in the mid-1960s with visual experimentation and conducted cuts and collage studies of images, then in the 1970s moved toward social denunciation related to the miserable living conditions of the population of the city of Naples, vibrant and popular, and in the 1980s toward a silent evocation of the metaphysical landscape and Mediterranean archaeology, with a creative language that reflects on time, light, and the act of seeing itself. In 1983-1984 Mimmo Jodice also participated in the project “Viaggio in Italia” with Luigi Ghirri and about a dozen other emerging Italian photographers of the time such as Guido Guidi, Mario Cresci, Olivo Barbieri, Vittore Fossati. Mimmo Jodice has exhibited his work in France on several occasions, notably within the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d'Arles, as well as during a retrospective at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris in 2010, which led to the publication of an important catalogue.
Exemplary in excellent condition, with slight age wear (see photo). A book from my personal collection kept as is with the greatest care. Protected shipping with reinforced packaging and insured international trackable postal service.
