Description from the seller
Lot of 3 hand-painted tin-glazed ceramic plates – monochrome blue décor with landscapes and floral motifs – Italy, 20th century
Description
Interesting lot consisting of three glazed ceramic plates hand-painted in cobalt blue on an ivory background, made in Italy in the first half of the 20th century. Although they belong to the same decorative tradition, the three plates feature different subjects: one depicts a small church set in the countryside, a second a rural house among trees and vegetation, while the third is decorated with a simple stylized floral motif. All are embellished with a geometric ornamental band along the rim, executed by hand. The workmanship, the slight irregularities in the painting and glaze, together with natural color variations, attest to artisanal production. These are decorative objects that recall the tradition of Italian popular majolica, particularly widespread in the southern regions. Ideal as wall decor or to enrich a collection of traditional Italian ceramics.

Curiosity
Blue monochrome decorated maiolica represents one of the most characteristic productions of Italian 20th‑century ceramics, inspired by ancient Renaissance maiolicas and the famous Delft-style Dutch ceramics. Many artisanal studios reinterpreted these models with rural landscapes, religious buildings, trees and floral motifs executed with spontaneous and immediate painting. Each piece was individually decorated by hand before the second firing, which is why small differences in stroke, shading, and motif arrangement should be considered signs of artisanal authenticity.
