Description:
Osiris in bronze with a deep brown-red patina, depicted in a mummiform, standing, arms crossed, holding the traditional insignia of Osirian royalty.
The god wears the Atef crown consisting of the solar disk framed by tall side plumes.
The face, finely modeled, presents hieratic features characteristic of the Ptolemaic period, with almond-shaped eyes, a discreet mouth and an elongated postiche beard.
The surface retains significant traces of reddish cuprite and ancient concretions, bearing witness to a long chemical evolution of the metal and reinforcing the piece’s authentic character.
Conservation:
Small loss visible on the solar disk, as illustrated in the photographs, otherwise very good.
Period:
Egypt, Ptolemaic period, 4th – 1st century BC.
Height: 13.3 cm with the tenon.
Provenance:
Private collection of Mr. E. C., by descent from his father in 1980.
