"La Traversée" opens on the deck of a classic mahogany runabout cutting through open Mediterranean water under a vast summer sky. A nude man lies face down on the white deck, his body stretched out in complete abandon, arms spread to the sides, palms flat on the warm wood, bare feet toward the viewer. His skin is bronzed by the sun. He does not move. He does not need to.

At the helm, a man in a crisp white linen suit stands with one hand on the wooden steering wheel, the other resting at his side. He faces the horizon, composed and commanding. He does not look down at the body stretched before him. He does not need to look to know it is there.

Between them, placed neatly on the deck near the nude man's bare feet, a pair of dark brown leather oxford shoes sit side by side. They are the only trace of an identity that was shed somewhere between the shore and the open sea. Everything else was left behind with the land.

The sunlight fractures on the water in every direction. A single white sailboat drifts on the distant horizon. The wake trails behind the boat like a line drawn between what was and what comes next. There is no destination in this painting. There is only the crossing.

The artwork explores themes such as freedom and surrender, the body as territory, control and trust between two men, the shedding of identity and the sea as a space beyond rules, rendered through a contemporary figurative visual language with brilliant Mediterranean light and classical compositional structure.
