Italian-made carved and giltwood frame from circa 1900, with a red velvet interior passe-partout, external dimensions 74 cm high by 124 cm wide and 9 cm deep, internal opening 50 cm by 100 cm, in good condition with light signs of age.
Description from the seller
Impressive frame made of carved wood, delicate chasing, stucco with plaster and coated in fine gold, dating from the early 1900s. Scenographically beautiful in appearance and shape, its greatest merit is the molded multi-step profile, carved, rich in chasing and the reticulated band.
The front features rich relief decorations meticulously handmade by master artisans of the era, with phytomorphic motifs and volutes at the corners and in the central areas interspersed with engraved ornamental elements. These decorations give the sensation of a splendid floral and foliate interlacing with volutes that swirl around the corners of the frame and cascade in the central zones.
Suggestive is the central band decorated with a reticulate or diamond pattern (also defined as a "honeycomb" or "beehive" pattern).
The inner band is finished with red velvet (textile passe-partout), which creates an elegant color contrast with the gilding and enhances the painting’s luminosity.
The outermost stepped area is refined with a braid-engraved motif all around the frame.
The gilding shows a warm, even patina with slight signs of age and minimal wear at the most protruding points.
A frame of notable impact, a masterpiece capable of enriching and contextualizing important works, contributing significantly to their aesthetic presentation. Ideal for museums, galleries and apartments.
