A porcelain Ko-Sometsuke footed bowl from the Kangxi period (c.1700–1750), 19 cm in diameter and 6.5 cm high, blue and white with a lobed rim, produced in Jingdezhen for the Japanese market and in excellent condition from a private collection.
Description from the seller
An exceptional and highly collectible early 18th-century Chinese blue and white porcelain footed bowl, custom-made for the Japanese tea ceremony market (Ko-Sometsuke).
Featuring a beautifully molded lobed rim and a raised foot, the exterior is fluidly hand-painted with elegant underglaze blue lotus blossoms and foliage, framed by a classic geometric border. The interior features a minimalist central motif and a delicate chevron band. The base is marked with an underglaze blue cursive.
Specifications
Origin: China (Jingdezhen kilns, exported for the Japanese Market)
Dimensions: Diameter: 19 cm | Height: 6.5 cm
Condition Report
Overall State: In very good antique condition, presenting beautifully with an attractive ring when tapped. Completely free of any post-production chips, cracks, or restorations.
Surface: Displays minuscule, authentic age-related glaze wear to the interior.
Production Characteristics: The rim features distinct unglazed sections. These are textbook mushikui ("moth-eaten") firing effects from the original manufacturing process, highly prized by collectors as a signature hallmark of genuine early 18th-century Ko-Sometsuke porcelain. The foot rim shows characteristic gritty kiln sand adhesions from firing.
