Description from the seller
Collection of 2 antique German teddy bears from private family ownership – 1x Large Character Bear (approx. 60 cm, guess: 1925–1945, exposed joints/limbs and paws torn) & 1x mohair?? (my assumption) bear with name inscription (approx. 40 cm, guess: 1950s, softly filled, small holes in the foot) – an authentic attic find.
IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT CONDITION: All uploaded photos are an essential and integral part of this description. Please examine all pictures very carefully to get a comprehensive view of the condition, details, and signs of age before bidding!
Calling up is a charming, historic set of two original teddy bears from German private ownership (genuine, unrestored attic find). Since there are no manufacturer labels or buttons left, all information about brands and eras is based on my assessment of visual and material features.
Smaller teddy bear with open mouth (approx. 40 cm)
Manufacturer (Assumption): Very likely from a traditional manufactory such as Heili (Heinfried Lindner, Sonneberg) or a comparable German quality brand from the post-war period
Age (Assumption): approx. 1950s
Special feature (Inscription): The bear bears on its back an old, handwritten name note directly in the fabric (reads roughly like “Heidi” or “Heili”). It is suspected that this is the name of the previous owner or the bear’s nickname from childhood.
No fabric label present!
Characteristics & Function: The bear has a built-in growl voice in the belly.
Important condition note: The voice reacts only with movement and, due to aging, growls very softly/weakly. In addition, the bear has an expressive, open mouth made of felt with a brown tongue and is fully jointed (head, arms, and legs).
Condition: Overall in very good, clean vintage condition with dense mohair fur. The paw pads are intact except for one exception: there are small holes in the fabric on the right foot/leg, through which the soft wool filling is slightly visible.
2. Large teddy bear (approx. 60 cm)
Manufacturer (Assumption): Unlabeled, classic and high-quality German pre-war design (style direction Steiff, Gebrüder Bing, or Hermann).
Age (Assumption): approx. 1925–1945.
Material & Filling: Solid, traditional stuffing with wood wool
Beautiful, original glass eyes.
Important condition note (holes/tears): The bear is in a well-used condition with authentic patina of age.
Please refer to the corresponding detail photos: On the front there is a larger, open seam in the belly area, through which the historical wood wool filling is well visible.
There is a tear in the carrier fabric at the leg joint, exposing the original joint plate/construction inside.
The paw pads made of linen are also torn, so the original wood wool filling is slightly visible at the paws.
However, the bear is perfectly suited for collectors who are seeking untouched originals to restore.
