Portuguese colonial coin minted for the territory of Macao, one of the last European possessions in Asia. On the obverse the coat of arms of Portugal stands out against a background of an armillary sphere, a symbol of the Portuguese discoveries, accompanied by the value and the denomination of the territory. The reverse presents the official legend of the issuing country and the year of minting, together with the same heraldic shield. This 1 Pataca piece combines European influence with Chinese characters, reflecting the multicultural context of the region at that time. Its high grade MS66 denotes an exceptional state of preservation, with original luster and sharp details.
