Antique Lunar carbide lamp made of metal with green faceted glass, ca. 1900-1930
Authentic antique carbide lamp from the Lunar brand, dating from the first quarter of the 20th century. These lamps were used at the time as bicycle lamps or carriage lamps and operated on carbide gas, produced by dropping water onto calcium carbide.
The lamp is made of chrome-plated or nickel-plated metal and features a striking facet-cut green glass side window, presumably a signal light. On the other side lies the main reflector system with the characteristic round shape.
