Rare and elegant 19th-century matchbox holder (matchbox case), Napoleon III style.

This beautiful display piece testifies to the refinement of smokers' accessories of the era. It features a superb Boulle-style marquetry on its lid, consisting of finely cut brass inlays set against a red-tinted tortoiseshell background.

• Exterior details: The center of the lid displays a medallion with an interlaced monogram. The edges are outlined by a border in carved bronze or gilt brass.

• Functionality: The case opens to a blackened wood compartment. The base is equipped with its original striker (rough red surface) allowing you to strike light the matches.

• Condition: Good overall condition for an object of this age. Presence of an authentic patina and light signs of use that add to its charm. Small loss of brass and wood (See photos for detail).
