Description from the seller
GENERAL:
Here is a Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL from 1987 offered in exceptionally good condition. The model designation SEL points to the exclusive, extended version of this top-of-the-line S-Class model. The car was originally equipped with an impressive amount of factory options that were unimaginable luxury for that period, allowing this specimen to be described as 'full option.' This vehicle originates from the American states of California and Texas, which immediately explains the exceptionally healthy basis. In short, this is an absolute top car for the connoisseur or collector that you must not miss.
BODYWORK & PAINT:
The bodywork and paint of this extended limousine are in remarkably beautiful and well-kept condition. The car still sits with a superb, tight finish, shows a deep gloss, and is completely free of distracting dull spots. Thanks to the favorable and dry climate in which the car has driven, the Mercedes has a completely dry and rust-free underbody. Across the entire body there is only one small bubble or rust spot at the level of the trunk. The glass, chrome parts and other exterior details are also in very nice condition and no bodywork or welding is necessary.
TECHNICAL DATA:
Technically, this powerful 560 SEL is in absolute top condition and the engine starts directly at the first attempt. The monumental V8 engine runs whisper-quiet and unobtrusively, accelerates powerfully in every gear, and the automatic transmission shifts almost seamlessly. The brakes function perfectly and the car sits on excellent tires that still have about 95% of the original tread, while the suspension has fully preserved its legendary comfort. Maintenance has always been performed timely and consistently at an official Mercedes-Benz dealer, with the last major service having taken place only 450 kilometers ago. Very recently, all fluids and filters have been replaced, the brake lines flushed, and new brake pads as well as new wiring for the spark plugs installed.
INTERIOR:
The interior of the car can be described as nearly as-new and exudes the authentic atmosphere of pure luxury from the eighties. The seats are upholstered in undamaged, high-quality Poltrona Frau leather, which still radiates immense class after all these years. The chic wooden trim elements are in very good condition, with only a few fine hairline cracks in the wood around the center console. The unique headliner is also completely intact, looks like new, and the sliding/tilting roof functions flawlessly. The only notable point is that the fabric at the A-pillar on the driver's side is a little loose. All other luxury options, including the separate rear climate control and the electrically adjustable rear seat, operate as intended.
DOCUMENTS:
This vehicle comes with a very extensive and transparent service history consisting of a large number of invoices from many years past. The car currently has American documents, but all customs duties, VAT and import taxes have already been fully paid. This allows the car to be registered and imported into any European country of choice without complicated procedures. Specifically for Belgian buyers and a smooth local registration, the seller will also provide the required customs form E705. All documents and the accompanying keys are of course handed over to the new owner at the time of transfer.
PICK-UP:
After successfully closing the auction, this Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL can preferably be picked up in Kruibeke, Belgium. Collection is by appointment, so the transfer can take place calmly and carefully. If the buyer is not able to pick up the car themselves, very favorable delivery terms can be arranged. Transportation can be professionally organized by mutual agreement to deliver the car safely to the desired destination. Prospective buyers are warmly invited to make an appointment via Catawiki before bidding to personally admire the exceptional condition of this car.
OTHER INFORMATION:
This particular example of the 560 SEL represents the absolute pinnacle of the legendary W126 series in its most luxurious form. The combination of the sought-after extended bodywork, the rare Poltrona Frau leather interior, and its dry American provenance makes this a unique object. Thanks to the recently performed major service and renewed wear parts, the car is immediately ready for enjoyable, comfortable journeys. It is not only a fantastic driving car, but also, due to its originality and dealer-maintained history, a solid investment for the future. All components of the electrical system and the mechanics have been checked, ensuring you get a reliable and worry-free classic with this Mercedes.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
