Description from the seller
Oil on canvas from a European school in the 20th century, depicting a traditional urban view, with a cobbled street flanked by old half-timbered houses and vernacular architecture. The work is signed in the lower left corner.
The composition shows a slightly ascending village street, with facades in light tones, sloping roofs and visible wooden structures, typical of rural or Central European architecture. The scene is constructed from a low, close point of view, which draws the viewer into the interior of the urban space and guides the eye toward the end of the street.
From a stylistic standpoint, the work sits within a line of European urban landscape painting with Post-Impressionist influence, featuring loose, visible, vibrant brushwork. The artist does not aim for a strictly academic description of the architecture, but for a luminous and expressive interpretation of the place, using color planes, impasto, and a clear palette dominated by blues, greens, ochres, whites, and pinkish tones.
The lighting treatment is especially interesting, bathed on the facades and the pavement with a cold, bluish atmosphere. The roofs, shadows, and the diagonal lines of the street add dynamism to the scene, while the small figures in the center introduce human scale and narrative character.
The brushwork, freely and somewhat textural, gives movement to the painting surface. The work presents a gentle and evocative view of the traditional urban landscape, with a very attractive decorative aesthetic and a clear modern sensibility.
The signature is located in the bottom left. The condition can be assessed from the photographs, which are part of the description. It is recommended to carefully review the images to assess the overall state of the painting and its frame.
It is presented framed with a classic gold frame, in keeping with the piece’s aesthetics. The frame is sent as a gift along with the artwork.
A decorative and luminous piece, especially suitable for lovers of European urban landscapes, views of old towns, traditional architecture, and 20th-century Post-Impressionist-influenced painting.
