Description from the seller
Antique Edwardian Bone Hand Fan with Hand-Painted Birds and Lace Decoration
An elegant Edwardian hand fan dating from the early years of the 20th century, combining finely worked bone with delicate textile decoration. The fan exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and decorative taste associated with the Belle Époque period, when such accessories formed an essential part of fashionable dress and social occasions.
The gauze leaf is adorned with hand-painted birds and floral motifs, enriched with applied lace decoration that lends depth and texture to the composition. The fan is mounted on finely carved and pierced bone guards and sticks, displaying intricate ornamentation and careful workmanship throughout.
Graceful in both scale and design, the fan reflects the enduring appeal of naturalistic decoration at the turn of the century. The combination of hand-painted imagery, lace appliqué and carved bone creates an object of considerable decorative charm, equally suited to a collection of antique fans or as an interior display piece.
The fan remains complete and structurally sound, opening and closing correctly. The gauze leaf, lace decoration and bone frame are intact. Light surface soiling, together with minor wear and imperfections commensurate with age and careful use, is present.
