Wooden saint shelf in Louis XVI neoclassical style, made in France, dating to 1900–1910, with gilded reliefs, dimensions 22×22×17 cm, in good used condition with small signs of age.
Description from the seller
It is a Louis XVI-style saint shelf, carved in wood and conceived to support a devotional image with the dignity and balance characteristic of French neoclassicism. Even as a functional piece, it behaves like a small architectural fragment: compact, elegant, with restrained yet highly expressive ornamentation.
The main body presents a straight, clean volume, softened by stepped moldings that frame the piece and give it depth. Above that sober block stands out the gilded carved motif, a stylized leaf that unfolds with the restrained grace of Louis XVI: symmetry, order, soft curves, and vegetal inspiration that never falls into Rococo excess. The gilding, warm and slightly aged, provides a point of light that contrasts with the dark, polished grain of the wood.
The side form, with its rounded profile and graceful fall, recalls classical consoles reinterpretated in domestic key. It is a piece designed to integrate into a traditional interior, but also to stand out on its own: small, yes, but with sculptural presence.
Taken together, this shelf combines neoclassical sobriety, craftsmanship, and a devotional touch, becoming a support that not only holds an image but frames it and dignifies it.
Insured shipping and careful packaging.
