Roagna Pira Barolo 2020, two 0.75 L bottles from Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, Italy, in Bordolese bottle with fill level to the neck.
Description from the seller
one of the most sought-after and cult labels in the entire Barolo denomination: Barolo "Pira" 2020 from the historic artisan producer Roagna. The Pira vineyard is a Roagna family monopoly in Castiglione Falletto; an extraordinary natural amphitheater with vines whose roots delve into soils rich in blue marls, limestone and iron, protected by the surrounding hills.
The 2020 vintage highlights Roagna's unmistakable style: a rigorously traditional winemaking with indigenous yeasts, extremely long submerged cap macerations (up to 2-3 months) and aging in large neutral oak barrels. On the nose it is disarmingly complex: notes of wild red berries, wilted rose petals, undergrowth, noble leather and a pronounced salty, mineral note. On the palate it is pure silk, vibrant and elegant, with a endless finish. A monumental wine destined for extraordinary longevity (beyond 30 years), perfect for collectors of high-level natural and traditional wines.
Grape: 100% Nebbiolo (from vines with an average age of 25-50 years)
Production area: Castiglione Falletto (Cru Monopole "Pira")
Conservation status: Impeccable bottle from a private collection. Stored lying down in a cellar at constant temperature and humidity. Level to the neck perfect, label and capsule as new.
Roagna is often reviewed later than other producers or comes to market at different times, but the scores for 2020 confirm its status as an absolute standout:
Vinous (Antonio Galloni): 95/100
Robert Parker (Wine Advocate): 94/100
Kerin O’Keefe: 95/100
Jancis Robinson: 17.5/20
Decanter: 94/100
