History:
The first V160 (prototype) was built by Krupp and delivered to the DB in 1960. It carried the works number V160 001 and had a rounded nose. Afterwards followed several of these pre-series locomotives (V160 002 to 009) which earned the nickname “Lollo.”
In 1963 the first V160 (V160 010) was delivered with a different front and the V160 acquired a new appearance. Until 1968, 214 of these V160 locomotives (V160 011-224) followed. In 1968 the locomotives were renumbered to the 216 numbers. The locomotives reached a top speed of 120 km/h. The pre-series locomotives were withdrawn from service between 1978 and 1984. Of the BR216 locomotives, the last locomotives at the DB were withdrawn in 2004.

The Kmmks-51 was used by the DB for handling goods, pallets, drums and light industrial loads.
The silver-gray version with red underframe is typical of the modernization wave of the 1970s, in which many goods wagons received a new color scheme.
Märklin released this variant as 4504, a popular model because it differs from the classic brown goods wagons.
