Description from the seller

Jan Willem Pasman (1905 - 1984) - Farm

Oil on canvas:
- Unframed (height x width): 33.5 cm x 49.5 cm
- Framed (height x width): 48 cm x 62 cm

Jan Willem Pasman was born in The Hague in 1905, and died in The Hague in 1984. Pasman was a painter, and his style can be described as:

“The painter of the typically Dutch landscape with its pools, ditches, windmills and enormous skies.”

Winter was Willem’s most fascinating season. He painted quite precisely and chose subjects from daily life or his immediate surroundings. Pasman is best known for his beautifully elaborated skies; that was really his specialty.
Pasman operated as a representative of the “Leidsche School” until 1940. The principles of the Leidsche School are technically exactly the same as those of the Haagse School. The difference lies in the local character. The art of the Leidsche artists is much more intimate and personal. Pasman was also a member of the Leiden painters and drawing society: “Ars Amulae Naturae.”

Pasman remained in Leiden until 1979, after which he moved to Emmen and spent his last years there.
