Description from the seller
Cast iron disk coffee grinder and wrought iron – Italy, late 1800s
The horizontal mill coffee grinder was the traditional tool for grinding coffee in farmhouses and rural Italian kitchens before the spread of industrial cylinder models. The beans were poured through the small hinged door on the disc-shaped lid, and the crank operated the internal mill, grinding them into powder and collecting them in the lower tray.
This specimen is entirely cast in iron and wrought iron, Italian artisanal production, datable to the second half of the nineteenth century. It features an oval, low cast-iron body/tray, a disk lid with a manually forged hinged door, a flattened wrought-iron crank arm with a terminal eyelet, and an original wooden knob.
The rough, massive workmanship, irregular proportions, and the absence of any industrial standardization indicate local forge production, probably from the Lombardy or Veneto area.
Authentic period patina and uniform oxidation. All original components present and intact. Internal mechanism not tested. Sold in the original found condition.
