Pair of Acoustic Research AR-18 / AR18J Teledyne speakers – Restored with re-foaming and revised crossover – Vintage 1977-1980
Acoustic Research bookshelf speakers model AR-18 (reference AR18J), manufactured by Teledyne Acoustic Research in the late 1970s (approximately 1977-1980).
This is a classic AR series model, designed with a sealed acoustic suspension enclosure. They are two-way speakers highly regarded for their precise, fast, and natural sound, with good midrange clarity and smooth highs. In their era they were valued for high-fidelity domestic use as well as nearfield studio environments.
Condition and restoration:
• Professional re-foaming carried out on the woofers’ surrounds.
• Crossover values checked and correct.
• Fully functional and verified.
• Original foam grilles in good overall condition (included).
• Wooden cabinets with walnut veneer showing normal wear for their age (small scratches and light marks visible in the photos).
• Original labels complete on the back with Teledyne Acoustic Research information, serial number AR18J 076309 and warranty text.
• Original drivers visible in the photos (8” paper woofer and paper tweeter).
