Description from the seller
This mixed-media painting on paper is an exceptional work by the Italian artist Girolamo Ciulla (born 1952). Although Ciulla is best known internationally as a sculptor, this rare two-dimensional work shows the same artistic strength and poetic visual language that characterize his sculptures. The composition depicts a figure with a halo carrying a child against the chest, an iconography that references religious and spiritual traditions, but interpreted by Ciulla in a personal and contemporary manner.
In both his paintings and his sculptures, Ciulla draws inspiration from Mediterranean culture, mythology, and the archaeological heritage of Sicily. His work is characterized by a subdued monumental quality and strong symbolic charge. Even in this piece, he uses simple forms and refined technique to evoke a powerful emotional and spiritual presence. Girolamo Ciulla has exhibited extensively in Italy and abroad and has gained international recognition with exhibitions in Europe, the United States, and Japan.
Dimensions: 75 x 55 cm
Dimensions with frame: 90 x 71 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, celebrating its 85th anniversary year. We also employ restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
