Description from the seller
Clemens Briels – Dish Dog
Dish Dog is a colorful and playful artwork by Clemens Briels. The dog, constructed from dishware-like shapes, blends humor with imagination. With its bright colors and clear lines, Briels shows how everyday objects can become a fantastical and striking artwork.
Behind the artworks of Clemens Briels lies always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Clemens Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISM: he imagines the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with a different, imaginative perspective on ordinary things and is often surprised by it.
Briels imagines experiences he gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music provides an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue, and the souk—music tones draped with a light erotic sauce—compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels' artworks are never bound to a specific time and reflect universal themes, cosmopolitan imagery of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the tool, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer's imagination by showing different images than those we are expected to see. Because stereotypes are learned, not imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is often taken by surprise.
Dimensions with frame: 63 x 73 cm
Dimensions without frame: 42 x 50 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
