Artist's biography:

Fernando Martínez Checa (Requena (Valencia), 1858- Baeza (Jaén) 1933) was a Spanish painter and professor.

Professor of drawing at the high schools in Huelva, where he remained until 1907, and in Baeza. In 1909 he founded the School of Arts and Industries of Requena, intended for the instruction of workers.

Specialized in oil painting and watercolor of vases of flowers and landscapes, the Provincial Museum of Huelva houses one of his works: Floating Baths in the Huelva Estuary (1897). Other works are held in the Museum of Fine Arts of Córdoba, where there is a wash drawing on paper titled The Hermits of Córdoba, and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Fuente en el camino, oil with dedication to the Marquesa de Majeras, 1884).
