Description from the seller
GERMANY. Westphalia. 1 Mark. 1921.
- Value: 1 Mark.
- Year: 1921.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: FRH. WILH. V. FÜRST VON PLETTENBERG. Reverse: NOTGELD · PROVINCE OF WESTPHALIA · 1 MARK · 1921.
- Grading: MS64 (NGC).
Aluminium 1-Mark coin issued as Notgeld by the Prussian Province of Westphalia in 1921. The obverse features the bust of Franz Wilhelm von Fürstenberg, a prominent reformer, educator and statesman of Westphalia, surrounded by his name in Gothic lettering, in a portrait with sober lines and superb modeling. The reverse shows the characteristic prancing horse, the historic emblem of Westphalia, accompanied by the legend NOTGELD, the name of the province, the face value of 1 Mark and the issue date. The specimen presents a magnificent state of preservation, with fully defined reliefs, clean surfaces and an attractive original satin finish, qualities fully in line with the MS64 grade awarded by NGC. This issue is part of the Notgeld series produced in postwar Germany to alleviate the scarcity of cash, constituting a representative testament to the economic difficulties that would lead to the German hyperinflation of 1923.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to leave absolutely clear that I do ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or inside EU that has special tax agreement (example: Canary Islands), it might be stopped in your local customs and they might ask you to pay taxes. This is a customs legal procedure and it is completely out of our control. Thanks for your understanding.
