Yashica FX-3 "Cultural Wave 1982" – Custom Artistic Restoration – One of a kind (OOAK)

Description:

A Masterpiece of Japanese Precision: The Yashica FX-3 "Cultural Wave 1982"
Own a one-of-a-kind piece of photographic history. This lot features a customized artistic restoration of the famous Yashica FX-3 (introduced in 1979), a mechanical SLR that represents the epitome of Japanese analog reliability, today reinterpreted through the lens of pop culture and early 80s high-tech design.

The Vision and Design: "Cultural Wave & High-Tech Japan"
This aesthetic restoration draws inspiration from Japan’s cultural and technological boom in 1982. The design celebrates the era of the economic and technological miracle, a period when pocket calculators, synthesizers, Shinkansen bullet trains, and early computers were redefining global aesthetics.

After studying and evaluating at least three different graphic solutions, I selected and calibrated a pattern that harmonizes perfectly with the FX-3’s geometry. The design blends iconic elements of tradition (Mount Fuji, the Japanese crane) with the pixelated and grid-like aesthetics of the nascent digital revolution. A millimeter-perfect composition ensures optimal visibility of the design despite the fragmentation of panels on the camera’s front side.

Florentine Craftsmanship: The "Florentine Method"
Restored by a professional with 20 years of experience in restoring fine antiques, furniture and art objects in Florence, this camera is a testament to heritage revamping:

Total Preparation: Complete removal of the old leatherette surface, meticulous chassis cleaning and degreasing to guarantee an impeccable adhesive base.

Material Innovation: Rejecting common commercial solutions, the final coating was applied after several test sessions on satin adhesive paper and laminations (discarded as non-functional or aesthetically insufficient). A specific technical material was used to offer a sophisticated matte finish and a tactile grip far superior to mass-produced synthetic leathers.

Artisanal Precision: Applying the customized pattern around the front controls (self-timer, optical release) requires millimeter accuracy so that ergonomics and mechanical movements remain perfect. Each piece was hand-fitted with the precision of a restorer.

Mechanical and Optical Conditions
Tested and Working: The camera is a fully functional photographic instrument, built on an already excellent mechanical base.

Yashica ML 50mm f/2 Lens: A legendary lens for sharpness and color rendition (made in Japan). The lenses are clean and sharp. No fungi or haze detected.

Mechanical: The mechanical shutter fires at all speeds, the advance lever moves smoothly, the self-timer works. Ready to welcome your next 35mm film roll.

Why this Yashica FX-3?
The FX-3 is known for being a nearly indestructible camera thanks to its fully mechanical shutter (works without batteries). This special Materia Analogica edition turns it into a sculptural and pop icon. It’s the perfect bridge between Japanese technical reliability and Florentine restoration art.

The latest photos show elasticity tests, resistance to tears, abrasions, cuts and the effectiveness of the water- and oil-repellent treatment applied to the decorated surface.

If owning one or more of these unique pieces is a cultural-value choice, I invite you to view my other lots in the auction as well.

"Each camera includes a signed Condition Report and a Restoration Certificate from my Florence studio, detailing the aesthetic work performed."
