In “The Fish and the Glasses,” the artist builds a scene where still life, marine symbolism, and cubist structure converge into an image of great poetic vitality. The composition places the fish as the central and dominant presence, suspended over a table where glasses, fruit, and containers form a small theater of shapes, balances, and visual resonances.
Far from appearing as a simple decorative motif, the fish acquires an almost totemic dimension. Its body, fractured into geometric planes and intense colors, seems to contain movement, memory, and gaze at the same time. It is a figure that observes and organizes space, as if its presence gave meaning to the rest of the elements. Around it, the glasses introduce an idea of ritual, celebration, and encounter. They are not just everyday objects, but signs of exchange, of pause, and that suspended moment in which domestic life becomes symbolic experience.
The table functions as both stage and meeting point between the organic and the built. The fruits, the vase, and the containers contribute a dimension of abundance and everyday life, while the fish introduces a more enigmatic energy, linked to water, dreams, and intuition. The work thus oscillates between still life and inner vision, between what is visible and what is suggested.
The color palette, dominated by blues, reds, yellows, and blacks, intensifies the force of the composition. Blue creates an atmosphere of depth and serenity; red adds tension and vitality; yellows illuminate the scene as points of energy; and black structures the whole with a firmness almost musical. The artist employs a contemporary cubist language that not only fragments forms, but also gives them rhythm, presence, and emotional density.
“El Pez y las Copas” speaks of the relationship between the everyday and the symbolic, of the table as a place of gathering, and of the capacity of painting to turn a collection of objects into a scene of mystery, balance, and quiet celebration.
