Description from the seller

Large Tankard with Lid – Silver Plated – Elkington & Co. (E&Co brand) – England – Fine 19th / early 20th century
Impressive English tankard in silver-plated metal with gilded interior (gilt wash), produced by the prestigious manufactory Elkington & Co., identifiable by the E&Co mark. Elkington was among the early pioneers of electroplating and one of the most renowned British manufacturers of silver plate in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The cylindrical body is magnificently decorated in high relief with Bacchanalian and mythological scenes: satyrs, putti, bacchantes and vines extend across the surface with a sculptural quality of notable refinement. The hinged lid is topped by a full-round putto, while the shaped handle completes the sophisticated ensemble.
The interior is fully gilt, a finish typical of tankards intended for serving beverages, which protected the coating and enhanced its elegance.
Conditions
Excellent overall condition, with normal and light wear to the plating consistent with age. The hinge works perfectly. The interior is well preserved with gilt intact.
