Description from the seller
Main features of the work:
Luca Albino (1884–1952) • “Mercato” • Oil on panel • 22×29 cm approx, 39×45 cm with frame • Signed bottom left • Golden frame with dark passe-partout and protective glass • Provenance: private Italian collection
The work can be linked to the early 20th-century Italian figurative Realism, within the Amalfi School. Style: Realism.
“Mercato” is a splendid, bright and lively panel, capable of condensing all the energy of a Mediterranean square into a compact and precious format. The tents, stalls, figures and architectures emerge with quick, material and vibrant painting, rich in color and atmosphere. Albino transforms a everyday scene into a warm and engaging image, where light, movement and popular life blend together with great naturalness.
Albino’s painting arises from the great Neapolitan landscape tradition, heir to the Posillipo School, and finds one of its happiest expressions in the Amalfi School. In “Mercato” this heritage is recognizable in the brightness of the South, in the strength of color and in the ability to render a simple, authentic and profoundly Mediterranean scene as lively.
The work is datable to the first half of the 20th century. The bottom-left signature is clearly visible and the subject fully fits the artist’s most loved repertoire: markets, urban views, popular figures and scenes animated by light.
Luca Albino was born in Maiori in 1884 and died in 1952. He is among the most appreciated painters of the Amalfi Coast in the early 20th century; his views and his popular scenes are sought after for freshness, color, immediacy and strong collectible appeal.
The gold, rich and scenographic frame, with dark passe-partout and protective glass, gives the work an important and secure presentation. The contrast between gilding, dark background and the brightness of the scene effectively enhances the panel, which presents in excellent conservation conditions.
The buyer will receive the work in careful and sturdy packaging, with particular attention to protecting the glass and the frame. Very fast shipping.
Chromatic rendering and the perception of details in the photos may vary slightly depending on the screen used and the presence of the protective glass; in person the work retains its full visual presence.
