Description from the seller

Old Greek icon "Annunciation" from the second half of the 29th century.

The icon is signed and dated by the icon painter as 1884 (see photos).

Hand-painted with egg tempera colors or oil on a wooden panel with a chalk ground. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th centuries in Greece (in reference to the Russian Orthodox Church).

The subject is relatively rare and very popular in the Orthodox Church.

The painting is relatively detailed (see photos).

Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and successful shading. The painting contains very authentic craquelure (see photos).

Especially expressive and striking are the faces of the saints (see photos). The saints and the icon are inscribed. The inscriptions are legible.

Stable and solid wooden panel, which, however, shows a vertical crack (see photos).

ATTENTION: In the left half of the icon there is a vertical crack. The icon is nevertheless stable and does not fall apart.

The icon is in good condition with typical signs of aging (see photos).

All details are clearly visible in the photos. Photos are part of the description.

Dimensions: 27x20x2 cm
