Description from the seller

Obsidian is a volcanic glass whose formation is due to the very rapid cooling of lava, still rich in silicate ions. Obsidian is a natural glass, entirely similar to the human-made glass.

A highly sought-after raw material in antiquity for the manufacture of sharp tools (predominantly knives) and one of the commodities that fueled trade in the Mediterranean and sustained the economic life of the mining sites. Today it is still worked into small decorative objects, jewelry, and blades for scalpels.

Splendid sphere of obsidian, originating from Mexico.

Weight: 1500g
Diameter: 11.14cm
