Unique FIFA football trophy – Gift from the Libyan Football Federation – 2010 FIFA World Cup bidding process
A unique and rare FIFA trophy is offered, donated by the Libyan Football Federation to Belgian FIFA commissioner Jan Peeters during the bidding process to organize the World Cup in Africa.
Unique piece, coming from the personal collection of the Belgian FIFA commissioner Jan Peeters
The ball also bears the signature of "Nasr Aldien" the origin of this signature is unknown, most likely a high-ranking member of the Libyan Football Federation at the time.
The trophy was offered on the occasion of Libya’s candidacy for hosting the 2010 World Cup. At the time five African countries were candidates: South Africa, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia. The FIFA commission, of which Jan Peeters was a part, evaluated the candidatures and issued advice on the organization of the tournament.
According to its provenance, this trophy comes from the period when Muammar Gaddafi was the leader of Libya and was handed to Jan Peeters on behalf of the Libyan Football Federation.
